Michael on the roof walked up to Thoth Hill with my walking guide Mohammed Ismail. They used a new route which only took 90 minutes which Mohammed had found. Michael is reasonable fit but closer to 80 than 70, he says it is a stiff climb but not too bad, so a good walker should have no problem. This temple is unique as far as we know being on top of a hill and worth a visit.
Is that temple from Ptolemeic times? I can't remember.

ReplyDeleteFlinders Petrie says 25 minutes on the level from Qurna, then 45 minutes for the climb to 1200 ft. 50 minutes coming back down. But he was a fitness freak, and only in his 40s at the time. Is it accessible by donkey?

Sadly no donkeys could make it up there, this is one of the points the Hungarians made in their book, every thing had to be hand carried up there. Every single day
