TE Data Launches The First Large-Scale Wireless Broadband Service in The Tourist City of Luxor
TE Data, the fastest growing data communications and Internet services provider and the broadband access market leader in Egypt announced the launch of the first large-scale wireless Internet access service covering the tourist city of Luxor in Upper Egypt.
The While in Egypt Stay Connected project (WIESC) is sponsored by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), and funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through Emerging Markets Group (EMG) as the prime contractor for this project.
TE Data was selected by the project contractor to design, implement and operate the wireless broadband network. The project aims at improving and expanding Internet connectivity within Egypt in addition to enabling tourists and visitors to stay connected during their stay. TeleTech (Telecom and Technology Company), supplier to TE Data, has supplied the project’s equipment and installation through its technology partner SR Telecom.
“Technology has always been the biggest society enabler and having such a service in Luxor contributes to Egypt’s overall prosperity in the field of tourism and hospitality. Which in turn will have a positive impact on its’ telecommunication market” commented Eng. Emad Elazhary, TE Data’s Vice Chairman and Managing Director.
TE Data rolled-out its wireless network in Luxor in June 2007. The network consists of a base-station providing the backhaul to TE Data’s national IP network, and 16 outdoor WiFi access points providing the wireless access to the city’s visitors. The wireless coverage spans a 5 Kilometers distance by the river side, where there’s a high concentration of hotels, Nile cruise ships, and cafĂ©’s in addition to Luxor and Al-Karnak temples and the Luxor main train station.
In its effort to address all potential users’ inquiries TE Data has launched a multi-lingual portal to support the service and guide first time users. Flyers and other collaterals that highlight the covered areas and the service pricing were also produced and are available through out the Luxor tourist areas.
The service, Scratch-Card based, is sold in two denominations. Tourists can choose between a daily access card and an hourly access card depending on their need or preference.
TE Data’s Luxor presence and its wide distribution channels insure that the cards will be available to tourists in the places they are more likely to visit. In addition, TE Data’s call center is available 24X7 to provide timely support.
