Getting back to normal

Well things are definitely getting back to normal as I just had my internet cut for non payment of the bill that was due 1st Feb. Had to rush over to Luxor and pay it. Apart from that there has been little to report, we continue to monitor the news to hear what is happening in Cairo.

I spoke to Miriam Seco who is working on the Tuthmosis III temple dig who has just returned to Luxor, there are a few digs still working.

  1. Jane, I spoke to my friend on the West Bank today. He is very very down. He is a tourist guide who up to 26th Jan was in Sharm working to send money back to his family in New Qurna. He has a mother and 4 sisters who rely on him for support and since the protests began he has not worked nor has he been able to provide for his family. I am very concerned about him and his family. He says that the banks are still closed in Luxor and what food there is - is expensive. I wish I could jump on a plane from the UK and bring some morale support or help in some way. He is very down. I really hope things are improving there.

  2. Please can someone let us know how it is in Luxor. We having been visiting Egypt every Feb for 10 years and are/were due again Feb 21st - are the Valleys open, are Karnak and Luxor temples open. We will be devastated if we miss our trip but it must be a million times worse for all the people who are out of work because there are no tourists

  3. That is very supportive of you Ros, as I have posted previously every site in Luxor is open for business and has been the entire time. Closure of sites has only happened around Cairo

  4. That's such good news - now all we need is the flight - we are due to stay at the Steigenberger again and have a list of things to see at the sites - this time we'll do it by taxi so will give someone a few days work!
