Work under way on restoration of Amenhotep III statues | Cairo Post
Work under way on restoration of Amenhotep III statues | Cairo Post: “The temple is 10 times bigger than other mortuary temples in the west bank. It used to be 700,100 meters. All its walls have been destroyed, but whatever was inside is still there. Our job is to save the temple that was once prestigious, but unfortunately was very badly damaged. I believe within 20 years, we will have achieved our objectives here,” Sourouzian said in a video at www.discoveringegypt.com.

State Information Services Antiquities Minister visits Luxor
State Information Services Antiquities Minister visits Luxor: Minister of Antiquities Mamdouh el-Damati paid a visit to the Upper Egypt governorate of Luxor on Saturday 22/11/2014, to inspect a number of archaeological projects there.
In press statements, Damati stressed the importance of such visits to encourage work and remove any obstacles.
He inspected the restoration of Amenhotep III Museum, asserting that his visits also aim at following up restoration works of Egypt's antiquities.
I suspect the article is referring to the excavations behind the colossus as there is no Amenhotep III museum

Was-Tutankhamun-epileptic- - Al-Ahram Weekly: The theory that Tutankhamun suffered from epilepsy is impossible to prove and has no Egyptological merit, writes Yasmine El-Shazly, head of documentation at the Egyptian Museum

The Grand Egyptian Museum Project Update: The Worl - blooloop: The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), potentially the "world's most spectacular museum" under construction in Cairo, has literally withstood the test of time and overcome several challenges in the past.
Evidence of that is once again at hand, as about 75% of the foundation and basement work is now complete, despite the severe political unrest that swept through Egypt in the past two years in the wake of the Arab Spring.

"New Discoveries at Hierakonpolis" Renee Friedman (EEG Meeting Talk) | It's More Fun to Be Jack of All Trades Than Master of One
Agreat write up on what appears to be a great talk
"New Discoveries at Hierakonpolis" Renee Friedman (EEG Meeting Talk) | It's More Fun to Be Jack of All Trades Than Master of One: On Sunday Renee Friedman came to the Essex Egyptology Group to talk about the latest discoveries she and her team have been making at the site of Hierakonpolis. First she put the site itself into context. It was an important pre-dynastic Egyptian city, situated just north of modern Edfu, called Nekhen (and later Hierakonpolis by the Greeks).

Gebel el Silsila Survey Project: A new season!
Gebel el Silsila Survey Project: A new season!: A new season!
The Gebel el Silsila Survey Team is back on site for yet another, hopefully, great season's work.
Work this season includes some new exciting features, such as 3D-scanning, GIS recording and the setting up of a proper archaeo-geographic gridwork for the first time, and of course the continuation of our previous recording including Sarah's pottery analysis, John's study into extraction methods and transportation, Maria's project on quarry marks and petroglyphs, Philippe's epigraphic work on Egyptological matters, as well as the documentation of prehistoric rock art sites and lithic industries. This season we are also delighted to have with us the splendid Egyptian scholar Moamen Saad, who is currently collating material for his doctoral thesis on the Nile Stelae here at Silsila. Of course, this season brings also another member; one who has become famous among most of you already - Lady Freja! She expresses her warmest gratefulness to her favorite friends of the Petrie Museum for bringing her some most wonderful gifts! We also give a warm welcome to Mohamed Ibrahim as our inspector!
Keeping this post short (another one will be posted by John tomorrow, giving you a description of our first week on site, including some prominent visits by TARA (Trust for African Rock Art) as well as Friends of the Petrie Museum and the Plymouth Egyptological group), we wish to welcome you once more to join us here virtually on our work at Silsila!

The-truth-about-Tutankhamun - Al-Ahram Weekly
Arebutal of the recent TV program about Tutankhamun by Zahi Hawas. I was going to say 'crap' TV program but that would be expressing my own views. As Joyce Tydesley says the real curse of Tutankhamen is what has been done to him after death!!!!!

The best quote from the story "The story of the golden boy is far from finished."

Flats in Luxor (Egypt) - Condominium Reviews - TripAdvisor
Our first Spanish review!
Flats in Luxor (Egypt) - Condominium Reviews - TripAdvisor:
