Jane, I wish I was still there to see it. Just as a matter of interest I see this old chestnut has reared its ugly head again. http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/0,1518,671993,00.html If only they'd left a list of grave goods!
I was on holiday in Cairo in January 2007 and visiting the Muhammad Ali Mosque when the thunderstorm hit in late January 2007. Amazing to see such heavy rain in dry Egypt. Brings back some fun memories of running through the rain and getting drenched due to a lack of rain coat.
Yes, Jane, Scott saw both the night rain and the one in the early morning with the thunder and lightening. Can't say as I did, in typical style, I slept right through it. Scott said the early morning one was quite violent. Best, Sharon
I work in Death Valley, and we had a nice deluge on Monday as well (annual rainfall is a little over an inch). Several of the roads got flooded and were closed, so my co-workers and myself had to take a little detour to work, resulting in a 2-hour morning commute!

Oh to imagine 3 years without rain, here in Vancouver we have to swim just to get to the beach.

Poor my Plextol-impregnated Ramesseum mudbricks...
